Interviews
LEANDRO
In my short college career, it’s been defined by show up, work, and going home. I’m sure a lot of people can also relate to that statement. There’s been very little friend-making and it almost feels like making friends isn’t really a thing, however, there has been on outlier in the past 5 months to oppose that statement. That outlier is my friend, Leandro. He, like me, is Dominican and comes from the Dominican Republic, and has only been living in America for about 4 years. He’s one of the most eccentric yet calmest people I know and has a passion for music and making beats & instrumentals. That’s one of the things we share in common and are some of the questions I asked him about in this interview, so without further ado, here’s getting to know Leandro.
Q- Who are your influences?
A- When I started to learn how to use FL studio I watched a lot of videos from a producer called Chuki Beats from london. I also watched videos from other producers such as Ocean, Gami, and a couple others.
Q- What instruments do you plan to play in the future?
A- I’d like to learn how to play several instruments like the saxophone, guitar, and piano, but first I’d like to focus on the saxophone, that’s the instrument that catches my attention the most at the moment. The saxophone is the reason why I love jazz and it motivates me to want to study music.
Q- Who do you want to produce for/work with the most?
A- One of my favorite artists is Drake, and for the most part I make beats in his style of music. I think Drake is a different vibe, and that’s why his music sells a lot, he’s good at doing a lot of different things.
Q- Do you see yourself in any career other than music?
A- Right now I haven’t decided on a major, but I’m really interested in studying jazz at the moment. If it’s not that then another option for me would be to become a graphic designer, I actually love graphic design. I’d love to design my own clothes and present them to big clothing companies like Zara, H&M, and others.
Q- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A- this is a very difficult question to answer because I don’t know what’ll happen in the future, but I see myself as a jazz musician, and trying to sell my beats on a website called “BeatStars”. But 5 years from now I would like to see myself happy, enjoying time with my family and friends, I think that happiness is a priceless thing. So what I’m doing today is so I could be happy in the future.
